EXTRAORDINARY DEAL AT WHIST.

"'New Club,' Brighton, April 9/1892. ; We, the undersigned, being all members of the New Clnb, Brighton, mako the following statement: —On the 21st day 6f March, 1892, we sat down- to -a, rubber of whist. Two new packs >of , cards were supplied • and opened in oar presence. We cat I'for partners, with, the :, \ j result that Muggeridge ■ and Gardner were tlie two'lowest, and Buckleyiand/) | Galpin the two J highest, ;Muggeridge being the dealer. ' Buckley dealt the pack chosen' by Muggeridge irregularly into five heaps, face downwards. He then took them into*his'hands, and, having shuffled them again, said ' I will give them " the Yorkshire poke,"' and poked a few cards through from the centre.- He then passed them to Mug-" geridge, who said, 'I shall not take " the Yorkshire 1 poke," I will, give them " the Devonshire poke."' He then shuffled them in his hands, and also gave them a poke from r the ' centre. Galpin then cut the cards, and Muggeridge dealt, with the following resalt : —He turned up the four of spades, and had all the' remaining 'spades'in his hands.
