MR GLADSTONE'S VIEWS ON THE EIGHT HOURS' SYSTEM.

Mr Gladstone, in a letter to the London Trades' Council, declines to receive a deputation on the subject of Universal Eight Hours' System. He stated that the 'question was not ripe for discussion, and there was no likelihood of its being seriously considered by Parliament until the classes affected had shown that the uniform compulsory rule was applicable to an unbounded number of persons in employment. ■ - - One delegate proposed to throw the letter in the waste paper basket, but the Chairman ruled the proposal out of order as irregular.
