'The meeessarily scant reports: of :tb.e late County Conference leave a good many details to be explained at leisure. We may state that it is the intention of the Executive to publish at length a full report of the proceedings -in pamphlet form, and those desirous of making themselves acquainted with, the work in detail will, be able so to do. The work of the G-oldfields Committee, necessarily brief, in 'report^ is one -chapter of the proceedings which requires a little daylight thrown upon it. The Committee's first recommenda-. fiion was that the Regulations for. Aid to Prospecting be amended, in 'that County Councils may allow, instead of 15s per week, 22s'6d .per week, *or half current wages ,per man to .prospecting parties ; and also that "instead, of, as at present, compelling 'the parties to work more then three miles from mair or district roads or knownworkings, the matter of the adjacency of roads be not considered, and that the limit from known workings be altered from three to two miles. The Warden said, not long ago, that all the prospecting seemed to be done by the old men, and this is emphatically true. Youog men will not tackle the
'Was entirely in the hands of th Council. He could not give an opinion, but would suggest that tenders-be called for advertising the balance-sheet.
Cr 'Bowler moved : That tenders be icalled" for advertising the balance-sheet. >No seconder. Lapsed.
REPORT OF 'FINANCE COMMITTEE. Tour Committee beg to report:— 11. That the debit balance at Bank of New Zealand amounts to £602 Is 9d, unpresented cheques ,£43 9s, and cash in hand £11 8s Bd, making the . total indebtedness £634 2s Id. 2. There are no passed unpaid accounts. "3. The Eevenug of the County from the 30th March amounts to £167 17s 9d. *4. The prospective liabilities of the Council amount to £594 17s sd, of which £115 19s is now due. f6, The Committee recommend accounts ■ for-payonent amounting to £306 19s Proposed fyr'Cr Phillips: That .tha ireportbe adopted. Cr McGruer v brought up the matter <of occupation licenses. He said the n whole of Paeroa was fenced in, and the -whole 6f Ohinemnri was fenced in. "What were we to do? Were we to «shut up the whole place? There was no room to erect a'hut or tent. The Chairman read secfcionofthe Act I bearing on the subject. The Council then adjourned.
