TRAGEDY NEAR KAMO.
Auckland, Thursday.
Particulars came to. band this morn, ing-of a most horrible tragedy which took place^this morning,at Helena Bay, -near Kamo. The victim was Arthur Kattan, and the perpetrator of the deed Hobert Butler. Both men ace settlers at Helena Bay. . It appears from a confession made by Butler to the police that he had a •quarrel with Kattan yesterday morning about money matters, when Kattau drew a knife and stabbed 'him in three places iv bis chest, which marks of JButler then drew a revolver and shot' IKattan dead.. A man named Loosmore reported the 'fatal occurrence to Constable Moore, -stationed at Kamo, this .morning at ifaalf.past eight. The constable immediately went in of Butler, and found him making <offin>theHikurangi 'bus for Whangarei. He arrested him, and after doing so Sutler confessed his -guilt of the crime, ;and gave the constable particulars of show the fatal quarrel arose. Both men are foreigners. Helena Bay, the scene of the murder, iis situated up the coast about 30 miles /from Kamo. Constable Moore and Dr Hall pro<ceeded this morning from Kamo to Helena Bay to hold the usual investigation and^make inquiries into the affair.
