Brief Jolt Felt In Dunedin

Just to add variety to the Christina* festivities, the Dunedin area felt a minor earth-tremdrion Saturday evening. Where parties were in progress it is unlikely that the tremor would be felt, for it was very brief and left some doubt in the minds of even those who thought they had felt it. The tremor occurred shortly after 9 o’clock and was preceded by a clearly audible rumble. There was no preliminary quaking—merely a sharp jolt. Any loose fixtures or furniture rattled briefly, but the tremor was not of the type to cause lampshades to' swing. A similar shock .was , felt at Mosgiel, but there have been no reports of tremors being felt elsewher.e in the province. i
