HIGH HONOUR AWARDED
Catholic Parish Priest
PA CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 25. The apostolic delegate for Australia and New Zealand, Archbishop Marella, has informed Bishop Joyce that Pope Pius XII has conferred upon the Right Rqv. Monsignor James Kennedy. D.D., parish priest of St. Peter’s Church, Beckenham, the title of prothonotary apostolic. Monsignor Kennedy, who was born in Greymouth, studied at St. Patrick’s College, Manly, whence he went to Rome, where he read a brilliant theological course and was awarded a doctorate of divinity. Monsignor Kennedy is one of the best known and most popular priests in the diocese of Christchurch and has many friends in all sections of the community.
The title of prothonotary apostolic is held by only five other monsignori in Australia and New Zealand, and Monsignor J. Cahill, of Auckland, is the only other New Zealand priest to have been accorded this honour.
