AUCKLAND DOUBLE

Beaumaris And Regoli

‘ Special to the Dally Times AUCKLAND, Dec. 25.

The top weight, Beaumaris, is the popular fancy for the £12,600 Auckland Cup, of two miles, which will be the feature event of the opening day of the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting at Ellerslie tomorrow. Beaumaris has come through a strong preparation in great style and is in a high state of fitness. On past performances he is the class stayer of the field and in view of his record he appears to have an excellent chance with 9.3, or 41b over weight-for-ege for a four-year-old. Other horses of his age have won the race with greater weights. Although a final payment of £3O each is due at the post for starters, it is probable that the field-for the Cup will number 23. Outside Beaumaris, fancies may be well divided, and among the horses likely to have many friends are Tudor Prince, Calibrate, Vigilant, King Finchall, Lord Foxbridge, Zenith and Intrepid. The doubles totalisator will be operated on the Auckland Cup and . the Railway Handicap, the £3OOO six-furlong sprint. There are some, brilliant gallopers in the Railway Handicap, and luck in the early running may be an important factor. Among the best backed may be the three-year-olds Regoli, Personage and Correspond. The meeting of the leading Auckland two-year-olds—Gloaming Prince Brown Prince Taj Mahal, In Step, Rural Gold and First Step—with the well-performed southerners, Scorned and Montana is exciting considerable interest. The race appears more open than usual and should be one of the features of the day. The weather today has been cloudy and humid and the course is fast after a dry spell. Selections are:—

11.10: Robinson Handicap.—First division: Pashio, Gay Revel, Hialeah. Second division: Cincinatti, Pheroz Girl, Royal Nib.

12.0: Grafton Hurdles. —Kyrat, Foxfable, Kauri Pine. 12.45: Nursery Handicap.—First division: Bahadurshah, Earl Denby, Buslris. Second division: Lorene, Taressa, Never Mind. 1.45: Auckland Cup.—Beaumaris, Tudor Prince, Calibrate.

2.35; Queen’s Plate: Paper Strip, Keith, Pen Triend.

3.20: Great Northern Foal Stakes.— Gloaming Prince, Brown Prince, Taj Mahal.

4.10 Railway Handicap.—Regoli, Personage, Correspond. ‘ . ■

5.0: Christmas Handicap.—The Unicorn, Hutton, Earldom.
