Another Day Of High Temperatures
Dunedin experienced another very hot day yesterday, a maximum temperature of over 72 degrees being recorded at the Musselburgh Pumping Station. Housewives engaged in obtaining supplies for the long Christmas break found the conditions particularly uncomfortable. Many men, with complete disregard for conventions, discarded their coats. In the evening a thick pall of mist covered the city. Ice cream and soft drinks were in demand. If the present weather continues —and there is every likelihood of it doing so—the trade may find some difficulty in coping with the demand. Beaches, too, were popular, although it did not appear that there were so many people in swimming as on the previous day. Central Otago came in for its share of the hot weather, and Alexandra's temperature rose to 90 degrees in the shade during the dav.
