FALSE FIRE ALARM

Fine Of £ls Imposed PA AUCKLAND. Dec. 22. A woman in Williamson avenue last ni&ht heard a tapping on the fire alarm box near her bedroom' window. She told her husband, who saw a man smash the glass and give an alarm. Three engines turned out, and the man was held pending their arrival. Today in the Police Court, John Barton, aged 38, a confectioner, pleaded guilty to the resulting charge. He said he had been drinking, but the police told the magistrate, Mr J. H. Luxford, that there was no evidence of that in their file. They said the cost for each fire engine turning out, was £5. , , Mr Luxford, commenting that it was a case of wanton mischief, fined Barton £ls, in default one month’s imprisonment.
