Hitch-hikers Unpopular
Alexandra
Several cases have been reported to the Daily Times of the unpopularity among motorists of the large numbers of hitchhikers on the roads in Central Otago. One organisation with a number of trucks on the roads states that hitch-hikers are becoming a nuisance and appear to regard a ride in any passing vehicle as a matter of right. Two young women recently stopped a road service vehicle, and after the driver went to collect the fares after giving them a ride for some miles they informed him they had no money to pay for the lift and he had to pay the fares, amounting to 11s Gd, out of his own pocket. HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS
The Alexandra Bowling Club has received 28 entries in the Fours And 64 in the Singles for its annual tournament, which will start with the Singles on Monday morning. The Alexandra Golf Club will hold a tournament on Boxing Day. On Saturday the Dunstan Gymkhana Club will hold a picnic meeting. On Saturday week and on New Year’s Day the Alexandra Amateur Athletic Club will hold its annual sports meeting. With all these attractions the large number of holiday visitors expected to arrive in the town in the next few days should be well catered for in the way of sporting entertainment.
