STRIKE AVERTED

Wellington Hospital Fitters PA WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. The threatened walk-out of fitters on the works staff of the Wellington Hospital Board has been averted. Yesterday afternoon the chairman of the board. Mr A. A. Castle, and the chairman of the Works Committee. Mr J Flemming, met the (fitters, and an agreement was arrived at. The acting secretary of' the board, Mr A. F. Wilton, said afterwards that the men had agreed to the board’s offer of Id extra, bringing their basic hourly wage to 4s 4£d. beyond which the board cannot go without the approval of the Minister of Health. The fitters’ claim of 5s an hour it was stated, had been withdrawn.
