OAMARU SWELTERS
Near-record Temperatures
Oamaru sweltered in temperatures as high as 92.8 degrees yesterday. The day broke gloriously fine, and as early as 7 o’clock it was obvious that it was to be one of the hottest days experienced in Oamaru for some time. A slight northwest breeze did little to relieve the heat. The highest temperature ever recorded in Oamaru is 94.8 degrees—on February 7, 1949. Yesterday’s, temperature came close to this mark. After mid-day the thermometer fell gradually.
