BURNS CONCERT

Christmas Atmosphere

A gaily decorated Christmas tree without any presents attached might seem a very “ Scotch ” affair, especially when it decorated, the stage at the monthly’ concert of the Dunedin Burns Club in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Wednesday night. However, there was general approval when the president, Mr W. J. Oliver, announced that the audience was to have the privilege of loading the tree with chocolate for the old people and nurses at Talboys Home, and a flag - collection for the purpose met with a generous response. Earlier in the evening, the audience stood in silence to honour the memory of the late Mr Peter Fraser, who had been a frequent visitor and speaker at Bums Club concerts. The programme, which had a decided Christmas air, included items by Anita Oliver’s “ Komed'y Kids,” Margaret Baker’s Instrumental group, carols by members of the Wakari and Dunedin Institute Choirs, the “ Scottish Marionettes ” (Mesdames Ryalls and Haig), Daphne Baxter’s Highland Dancers, the Dunedin Ladies’ Highland Pipe Band, Mr J. Paterson (songs), Miss G. Scandrett (dance), J. Dickinson (comet) and J. Hyde (recitation). The accompanist was Mrs J. Kirk-Burnnand.'
