HELD UNJUSTIFIED
Bus Driver’s Dismissal
PA CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 14. The bus driver whose dismissal by the Christchurch Tramway Board caused the tramway dispute last month, Mr C. G. -Chappell,, is to be reinstated in his former position with a penalty of four days’ suspension for a breach of the rules. This decision was announced by the tribunal when it resumed this afternoon. Full wages for the time he has been away from work, with the exception of the four days, will be paid to Mr Chappell. The tribunal decided that the- rule under which Mr Chappell was dismissed was not valid “ in the widest sense of the word ” and that the penalty of dismissal was unjustified. A breach of the rule, however, had to be punished, and the tribunal considered that Mr Chappell should be suspended for four days, with a consequent loss cf pay.
