ATTACK ON RUSSIA

Possibility Of Underwater Route Raised NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8.40 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 6. Submarines travelling under the Arctic Ocean could carry American troops within striking distance of Russian industrial centres, Sir Hubert Wilkins, the noted explorer, said last night. Sir Hubert, Australian-born consultant to the United States Military Planning Commission, said: “ The

potential of using the Arctic as an underwater route to Russia is great. By any other approach foot soldiers would have to go overland about 300 miles in Arctic conditions. Radar will not work in the Arctic to detect submarines, and there is no limit to the size of submarines. We can deposit our troops on the doorsteps* of the Russians.”
