INDUCTION OF DEAN

Service In Cathedral Last night in St. Paul’s Cathedral, before a large congregation, Canon Percival E. James, M.A., was inducted into the charge of vicar of the Cathedral district and Dean, of Dunedin by Bishop Fitchett. After the procession of choir, clergy and representatives of the laity through the nave’ to the sanctuary, Canon James read a document affirming his obedience to the General Synod, his loyalty to the Bishop, his assent to the Thirty-nine Articles and to ecclesiastical laws and regulations. The Letter of Constitution was then read and the keys of the cathedral handed over to Canon James. After the Bishop had led the congregation in prayer and Canon James had made his responses to the statutory questions, the official licence, sealed by the bishop, was read. The new dean was then conducted to his chair in the sanctuary by Bishop Fitchett.
