Cr O. Mac Fie was appointed chairman for the year at the first meeting of the new Peninsula County Council yesterday. Cr R. W. Aitken was appointed deputy chairman. After some 20 years of service as organist and choirmaster to the Morav Place Congregational Church, Mrs Olive Campbell has been forced bv ill-health to relinquish the position. The post has been taken by Mr R. J. Phillpot, Mus.Bac., who is also conductor of the University Choral Society. Mr J. S. Macdonald was last night appointed secretary of the Dunedin Junior Chamber of Commerce in succession to Mr R. G. de Joux, who will leave Dunedin shortly to take up residence in Oamaru. Mr and Mrs J. J. Tregear, of Anderson’s Bay, returned on Tuesday from a trip to England and the Continent.
