CANTERBURY GAMES

Mervyn Wood Unable To Attend NZP A—Copyright SYDNEY, Nov. 29. The world champion sculler, Mervyn Wood, has withdrawn from Australia’s team for the Canterbury Centennial Games because of leave problems. He has already had three leaves this year to scull in New Zealand, Melbourne and America. Wood says he is confident that Kevin Webb will still win the sculls for Australia, although the New Zealander, Joe Schneider, will make the decision close. (When Webb and Schneider last met in Sydney in 1948 the New Zealander beat Webb for second place by two feet.)
