Unity Of Nile Valley
PROTEST AT EGYPTIAN DEMANDS NZPA— Copyright Rec. 8.20 p.m. KHARTOUM, Nov. 18. The Sudanese opposed Egypt’s demand for uniting Egypt and the Sudan under the Egyptian Crown at a protest meeting held in Khartoum last night by the Sudanese Umma (Independence) Party. The demand was made by King Farouk in his recent Speech from the Throne in which he also called on Britain to evacuate troops from the Suez Canal zone at once.
Sayed Siddik el Mahdi, eldest son of the Umma Party’s president, Sir Sayed Abdel Rahn el Mahdi, declared: “We will - never accept unity of the Nile Valley, for it will place us under a rule which is worse than colonisation. None but the Sudanese themselves can decide the future of this country.” The Education Minister, Sayed Abdel Rahman Ali Taha, cbndemning the principle of unity of the Nile Valley, said: "The Egyptians want to control the waters of the Nile in order to open the door for immigrants from overpopulated Egyptian provincls to exploit the land of this country. If she wants war, we are prepared.”
