THREAT TO WEST
Asiatic Domination CALL .FOR UNITY NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8.20 p.m. PARIS, Nov. 18. The Italian Foreign Minister, Count Sforza, warned Western Europe today that it must' unite—or fall under Asiatic domination. He called on the European Consultative' Assembly meeting at Strasbourg to act- swiftly and boldly to erase national frontiers. “The fate of Europe is in your hands,” he told the 15-nation Assembly. Count Sforza’s address followed the formal opening of the Assembly’s second session.' He blasted the Cominform’s “ falsfe- campaign of peace ” and charged that Russia and her satellites were “ the bitterest and blindest enemies of peace.” Count Sforza said: “America asks us to unite because she is fed up with looking on us as the Balkans of the world and as a continent where wars arise. For this reason it is necessary for America to help us achieve unity and peace.” He said there was no conflict between the Atlantic Treaty and the Council of Europe. The way was now open for at least the partial unification of Europe. Count Sforza said one of the greatest dangers to free Europe was the
astonishing immaturity of the major portion of public opinion in every country. “Some of this opinion is lulled to sleep by the tradition of optimism. It fails to realise that we are all in the same boat and that t if one sinks we shall all sink together.”
