WAITAKI AND UNION

First-innings Wins Secured

Two first-innings wins were scored by Waitaki and Union against Albion and Oamaru when the second round of matches in the North Otago Cricket Association’s senior competition was completed on Saturday. In reply to Waitaki's 167, Albion had lost seven wickets for 91 runs at stumps, and on Saturday was all out for 123, 44 runs behind Waitaki. A. Berry was undefeated with 47. Fulcher was Waitaki’s most successful-' bowler, taking four wickets for 19 runs. Waitaki batted a second time and declared its innings closed at eight wickets for 173, which left Albion 218 runs for an outright win. At stumps Albion had lost seven wickets for 121 runs. The opening batsmen forced the pace, Geddes making 41 and Berry 24, Sandri 30. Fulcher again bowled well to take four wickets for 29 runs. Oamaru soon found itself in difficulties when Gunn was bowled in the first over of play by McDiarmid. He was followed soon after by Wilson and Moir, also bowled by McDiarmid. while Kelk was also dismissed cheaply. D. Hall, however, set about to retrieve the position . and his 61 was the top score of the innings. F. Finnegan and A. Currie associated in a bright stand, Finnegan making 45 and Currie 25. Oamaru’s total reached 192. 53 runs behind Union's first-innings score. Union batted again and J. Milnes headed the batting list with 67 not out in a total of 170 for 7 wickets. The top scorers for St. Patrick’s were Father McCarthy 46 and P. Griffin 45 not out. For St. Kevin’s. Jackson took four wickets for 30 runs. Waitaki secured its second successive outright win by beating Albion, after Albion had established a lead on the first innings. Siggleko 24, Muldrew 16 not out): Hill three for 14, McLennan six for 34. Waitaki A made 85 (Anderson 26, Bodle 17) and 90 (Hill 34, Kirkalaie 19); G. Siggleko six for 24, Taylor three for 5. A win on the first innings by 105 runs was secured bv Waitaki C over St. Kevin’s A. Waitaki C made 202 (MacAulay 42, Draper 29; Crosby six for 30). St. Kevin's A made 97 (Norris 28) and 93 for four wickets (Norris 41, Ogilvie 33; Hogg five for 32, Te Au one for 24, Latty one for 40. Waitaki B had, a win on the first innings over St. Kevin’s B by 21 runs. Waitaki made 115 (Ayres 58, Murray 16) and St. Kevin’s made 94 (O’Reilly 25, K. Heeney 18, M. Kelliher 15) and 66 for nine wickets (Donnelly 11); Grenfell six for 7, Austin three for 13. White three for 21.
