MAINBRACE ACCLAIMED

Challenge Resisted Special to the Daily Times AUCKLAND, Nov. 19. The three-year-old Mainbrace embellished an already brilliant record when he was successful in the £2IOO Foxbridge Plate. The race was run over a mile and a-quarter at weight-for-age and Mainbrace won decisively from Beaumaris,- with Balmacara five lengths away third. The time was 2min 5 2-ssec, and it was a good gallop an a track that, was not at its fastest. Mainbrace began from the outside of the field of 10, and after taking a furlong to get to the front on the rails stayed there. The enthusiasm of the record crowd was raised to a high pitch when Beaumaris challenged Mainbrace upon reaching the straight. The two horses rose to the occasion in great style and they went almost stride for stride for a little way, when Mainbrace began to pull away again in the last furlong. Mainbrace had definite ascendancy although Beaumaris kept fighting on like the gallant racehorse he is. Upon his return to scale Mainbrace received a well-deserved ovation from the crowd. The meeting of the champions created exceptional interest and the crowd gave vent to its feelings spontaneously. Mainbrace was disinclined to enter the starting stalls, but immediately he went into the outside one the field was sent away to a grand start. After going a little over a furlopg Mainbrace was in front, closely followed by Lord Moss, Gold Script, Beaumaris and Balmacara. Near the five-furlong post Lord Moss dropped back a little and Beaumaris went up second on to Mainbrace’s quarters. Mainbrace led into the straight still about three-quarters of a length ahead of Beaumaris, with Balmacara, Gold Script and Terminate following in close order. Immediately upon straightening up Beaumaris challenged and drew almost level. Hughes then began to ride Mainbrace with hands and heels and Mainbrace went on attractively and beat Beaumaris by half a length. Balmacara was five lengths away third, holding on to beat the fastfinishing Lode'r, who came along on the outside. Wonder Boy was just over a length awav fifth, followed by Lord Moss, Gold Script, Super Vaals and Firing Line.
