VISITING BOWLERS
Entertainment In Dunedin
Plans for the entertainment of the official British bowling party of 20 men and eight women, wno will arrive in Dunedin on Thursday, February 22, 1951. were discussed at the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Bowling Centre on Saturday. It was tentatively decided to play a match with the men on Friday, February 23, and entertain them at a smoke social evening on the evening of Saturday, February 24. The programme during the day on the Saturday would be left for the visitors to decide upon their arrival. The Visits Committee reported arranging for visits to five outlying centre clubs before the end of January, and volunteers were forthcoming to participate. Arrangements for the annual match between the Bowling Umpires’ Association on the St. Clair green next Saturday were made and it was decided to extend an invitation to country clubs attached to the centre to visit Dunedin for a match on Saturday, December 9. The New Zealand Bowling Association advised that official approval had been given to the holding of the centre’s usual tournaments —the Christmas pairs, the leads and seconds tournament and a tournament at Easter, 1951. .The following day tournaments were granted: St. Clair, Saturday, December 23;. St. Kilda, Tuesday, January 2. Arising out of the match committee’s report, it was resolved that one of the Caledonian Club's teams be disqualified in its first Saturday match because a player had appeared in incorrect costume.
