LAND SALES CONTROL

Land valuation committees ordered reductions totalling £13,626,374 in property sale prices from the passing of the Land Sales Act in 1943 to March 31 last. This is stated in the annual report of the Department of Lands and Survey. Both the number and amount of reductions in prices ordered by the committees increased year by year. For farm land, the reductions reached a peak of £739.552 over 1645 sales in 1947- Since then they have fallen to the 1949-50 figures of £544 765 over 1357 sales. Reductions in urban properties did not reach their peak until 1948- when they amounted to £2.192.608 over 15,391 sales. In 1949-50 reductions amounted to £2.051.749 over 13.630 sales.
