DOMINION LAMB
Market In Canada
Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Oct. 20,
New Zealand would have no difficulty in marketing 4,000,000 dollars’ worth of lamb annually in Canada if it could be made available. This statement was made to the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce by the assistant commercial secretary at the Canadian Trade Commissioner’s office, Mr C. M. Forsythe-Smith. “We in Canada,” he said, “ are not large consumers of lamb, but on the other hand we do not produce very much, and good lamb is always sold at a premium in Canada. We would like to buy lamb from New Zealand, and there is no doubt that if some quantities were released to us from the United Kingdom contracts you would have no difficulty in marketing at least 5000 tons annually, which would bring you about 4,000,000 dollars and would increase your exports to Canada by almost 50 per cent, on last year’s figures. This is a matter to be decided between New Zealand : and the United Kingdom,” he added. “I am merely mentioning that there is a substantial market in Canada. If you can see your way clear to make it available to 1 us we will be more than happy to take it.”
