Japanese Sentenced For War Crimes

NZPA—Reuter—Copyright LOS NEGROS, Rec. 11 p.m. Oct. 17. The War Crimes Court today sentenced two former Japanese Imperial Guards officers to life imprisonment for murdering Australian prisoners of war. They were ex-Major Hiroshi Itsui, Captain Kenichi Tokoro, who were found guilty of the murder of two Australian privates at Mergui, South Burma, in 1942. Tokoro was also found guilty of the murder of another soldier at Mergui. Itsui is at present serving a life sentence imposed for the murder of eight Australian prisoners of war at Tavoy. Burma.
