CELTIC UNITED HARRIERS
Prize-giving Function
To mark the end of the harrier season, members of the Celtic United Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club were entertained by the president, Mr R. M. Carroll, at a dinner held in the Rialto Tea Rooms.
Before presenting trophies won during the season, Mr Carroll stressed the need for team work and club spirit in order to further the progress of the club, and while congratulating the members on their performances, expressed the opinion that they were capable of a much higher standard. Other speakers were Mr W. Randell, on behalf of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and Mr J. McDonnell. The trophy winners were:—Brettal Cup (club 1 mile maiden race), J. Devlin; Geddes Cup (club 3 miles handicap), J. Gray; Azzaritti Trophy (fastest time in 3 mile handicap), J Gray; club trophy to Christian Brothers’ High School for ,boy gaining fastest time in senior cross-country, S. Gallagher; D. Hutton Trophy to Christian Brothers’ High School for boy winning junior cross-country, W. McFarlane; Moller Cup (club senior cross-country championship), N. Lynch; Cousten Cup (club junior cross-country championship), J. Gray; Dyson Efficiency Trophy (all round efficiency for winter season), F. Cameron; consolation mile cup (nonwinners for season), L. Walker; colts’ trophies (880 yards handicap), J. Riddell; 1 mile club championship, B. Meikle; Blue Star Cup (senior winter sports), H. Gray; Berry Cup (junior winter sports). V. Sullivan.
