Chair Of Geography MR GARNIER APPOINTED Mr B. J. Gamier, M.A. (Cantab.), senior lecturer in charge of the Geography Department of the University of Otago, has been appointed to the chair of geography at the University College at Ibadan, in Nigeria. This is one of the new colonial universities. The chair of geography was recently created there, and Mr Gamier will be the first to occupy it. • Born in China, Mr Gamier was educated in England. After graduating at Cambridge, he joined the staff of

the Wellington Technical College, where he taught for a short time before coming to Dunedin. He came to Otago in February, 1946. as senior lecturer in charge of the Geography Department at the University. While in Dunedin, Mr Gamier has done considerable research into climate and agriculture. In Nigeria he hopes to continue that research, particularly in relation to tropical agriculture and agriculture conditions generally. Mr Gamier is the author of .one of the Otago Centennial series of publications, “ The Face of Otago.” He expects to leave Dunedin early next year to take up his new post.
