Sharp Decline In Fat Stock Prices FA CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 11. Exceptionally big yardings and the present hot weather led to sharp declines in values in all fat stock sections at the Addington stock market today. The fat cattle entry at 610 was the largest for a long time, and heavy cattle were down by £3 to £4, and better medium-weights by about £2. Best beef made to 90s per 1001 b, with occasional sales at up to 955. Good made 62s 6d to 67s 6d; medium, 57s 6d to 62s 6d; best cow, 60s to 70s, and secondary cow 48s 6d to 57s 6d. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers, to £42 2s 6d; prime heavy steers, £2B to £33; prime medium-weight steers, £24 to £2B; ordinary and light steers, £l7 to £23. Extra prime heifers, to £3O 12s 6d; prime heifers, £l9 to £23; ordinary and light heifers, £ll to £lB. Extra prime cows, to £27 17s 6d; prime cows, £ls 10s to £2O; ordinary and light cows, to £ls. Fat sheep totalled 5903 head, and both ewes and wethers were cheaper on an average by 5s About 10 per cent, of the yarding was passed in at auction. Values were: Extra prime heavy woolly wethers made ot 107s’ Id; extra prime heavy wethers, to 68s Id; prime heavy wethers, 53s to 595; prime mediumweight wethers, 46s to 545; ordinary and light wethers, 32s to 455; extra prime woolly ewes, to 93s Id: extra prime ewes, to 48s Id; prime heavy ewes, 37s to 455; prime medium-weight ewes, 32s to 375; tallowy and plain ewes, 21s to 30s. The spring lamb entry at 259 was almost three times that of last week, and on an average values were down 5s on late rates. The best of the yarding made 59s to 63s Id: good, 52s to 58s: and medium and light, 45s to 51s. The fat hogget entry at 1267 was about twice the size of that of last week, and in this section best quality hoggets were 2s to 3s easier and other sorts were 3s to 4s down. Best hoggets made 62s to 69s Id: good. 52= to 61s; medium and light, 45s to 51s. The store sheep entry was 4116. Hoggets were easier by Is to 2s. Best ewe hoggets in wool made to 945. For an attractive line of Romney-cross, a few pens of woolly ewe hoggets of very ordinary quality made 51s to 60s. Shorn ewe hoggets made to 545; best wether hoggets made to 50s, with good, 42s to 48s 6d, and others down to 365. For ewes and lambs, prices were from par to Is firmer. Ordinary woolly ewes made 31s to 325, and a very plain line, 265. A small pen of good four-tooths made 465, all counted. Best shorn ewes and lambs made 30s to 325, all counted, and others 27s to 29s 6d. For store wethers, the demand was slack and prices were easier by about 2s. In the fat pig section, choppers were easier by up to £2 a head. Bacon was firm on late rates and pork was also unchanged except for heavy-weight and light, which were cheaper by 3s to ss. Values were:—Light, porkers, £4 17s 6d to £5 9s 6d: medium porkers, £5 11s 6d to £5 17s 6d: heavy porkers. £5 IDs fid to £6 9s 6d; lighter baconers. £6 12s fid to £fi 19s d- medium baconers, £7 Is 6d to £7 9s 6d: heavy baconers, £7 14s 6d to £8 19s 6d (average price per lb, 12d to 12-Jd): choppers. £4 18s 6d to £8 3s 6d.
