18-year-old Daughter Of Persian Dignitary
TEHERAN, Oct. 9. Persian newspapers reported today that Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlevi, 81-year-old ruler of Persia, who divorced King Farouk’s sister. Princess Fawzia, in 1948, will wed an 18-year-old girl he met briefly when she was 16.
Reports named his bride as Soraya Esfandiari, the dark striking daughter of a high Persian dignitary and a German mother. Last week she was holidaying in Paris, never dreaming she might marry her king. Then she was seen by the Shah’s elder sister, Princess Shams, who was staying at the same hoteL The Princess told the Shah that Soraya was charming and beautiful, and the Shah indicated that he would like to see Soraya himself, so the. Princess and her husband flew back to Teheran yesterday with the excited Soraya, who had met the Shah in Paris in 1948.
