VISIT TO DUNEDIN
Auckland City Missioner To Maoris The Rev. J. N. A. Smith, city missioner for the Presbyterian Church to the Auckland Maoris, and actingdirector of the Presbyterian Maori Missions in New Zealand, is due to arrive in Dunedin by plane today, to address various gatherings about his work. With the Maori population of Auckland city at 10,000, the Presbyterian Church decided early this year to appoint a full-time missioner in the city. Some buildings were .acquired for hostel accommodation for young Maoris coming to Auckland, and other buildings are planned, for a place of worship and other gatherings. Mr Smith, who has been in the Maori mission work since his ordination in 1942, and who has been actingdirector of Maori missions during the absence of the Very Rev. J. G. Laughton in England to see the new Maori Bible > through the . press, was appointed, and took up his duties in July. While in Dunedin, Mr Smith is scheduled to address meetings as under: October 10, Kaikorai Church; October 11, South Dunedin; October 12, Mosgiel; October 15 (Sunday), preach at First Church at the morning service and at Knox Church in the evening, with a Sunday School rally in the Octagon Hall at 2.30 p.m.; October 16, Presbyterian men’s gathering in the Pioneer Women’s Hall, at which the Rev. J. Graham Miller, of the New Hebrides mission, will also speak.
