“A GREAT FAMILY”

Service To Excelsior Club

Several times during the annual smoke concert and presentation of trophies of the Excelsior Football Club reference was made to the selection of S. Mosely (Athletic) and I. Nuttall (Excelsior) for the South Island Rugby team. Mr H. Pittaway said the North Otago Rugby Union was to be congratulated on bringing to the notice of the South Island selectors the calibre of North Otago players. Referring to Nuttall’s selection, Mr J. Firman, president of the union, said that it was an honour to the club, to the town, and “ to the great Nuttall family which has done much for football.” It was a pity Nuttall did not get a game, he said, as it was an honour he deserved. When presenting a trophy to J. Gallagher, the president, Mr H. J. Strachan, said that he felt sure that if Gallagher had been playing on the day the South Island selectors visited Oamaru, he would have gone to Auckland with Mosely and Nuttall. Later in the evening, Mr A. R. Low paid a tribute to the Nuttall family. ” The familv was rendering a great service to football, and to the Excelsior Club in particular,” he said. " Whenever you visit the Show Grounds you will see a Nuttall playing somewhere. *
