CRASH INTO PETROL CAR

New York Express Train Derailed

THIRTY-SEVEN INJURED Rec. 8 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 5. At least 37 persons were injured near Erie, Pennsylvania, today when the New York Centra) express, running at 80 miles an hour, slammed into a derailed petrol tank car which exploded with a brilliant flash. "It was just like a block-buster going off,” said a former bomber pilot who was driving near the scene of the accident.

Flaming petrol was sprayed over the 14 carriages of the express. The first of the two Diesel locomotives overturned and 11 carriages were derailed. Only the all-steel construction of the carriages prevented a heavier casualty toll.
