ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
Young Man Admitted To Probation A young man whose name was ordered to be suppressed, came before Mr J. G. Warrington, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of attempted suicide. The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was admitted to probation for 12 months, a condition being that he is to take out a prohibition order. Sergeant A. S. Chiles said he was called to the accused’s home at 1.20 p.m. on Sunday last. The accused came to the door slightly under the influence of liquor and told the sergeant that he had taken turpentine from a bottle which he produced. He had to be forcibly removed to the Dunedin Hospital and he had been there since. < The sergeant added that he had been called to the accused’s place on other occasions. He became violent wher under the influence of liquor. He was suffering from the effect of abdominal wounds received in the last wr.r. The accused said he did not remember anything of the occurrence, and he explained that he had not been able to sleep normally for some time. Maintenance Defaulter Cecil Edward Ingram was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on each of two charges of the disobedience of a maintenance order. The warrant is to be suspended in each case providing the defendant pays the current order of £1 per week and 5s a week off the arrears.
