TROOPS MOVE IN

London’s Strike-bound Gasworks Rec. 0.30 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 5. Today is crisis day in the London gas strike, says the Daily Mail. As 1360 servicemen begin maintenance work at four gasworks, 10 strike leaders will appear at Bow Street summoned under the Conspiracy and Protection of Property Act. One of the strike leaders said yesterday: “ The calling in of servicemen will make the men dig their feet in. It is the most provocative action the Government could have taken.” The strike is unofficial and has been going on for 20 days. A Government statement said it had been decided to send in servicemen “ in view of the continuing hardship and dislocation caused by the unofficial strike.”
