KOREAN CONFLICT
Sir, —I would remind “ Humanity ” that while America is not the only country that has dumped potatoes and other foodstuffs, she is the only country that i» spending about five billion dollars a year to rebuild the economy of Western Europe and other parts of the world. If we look on the other side of the picture we find that in* Russia, while million* starve, huge quantities of potatoes, wheat and other produce are dumped and allowed to pollute the air with their rotten odour. The Korean incident proves beyond doubt that it was Communist Russia’* determination to dominate Asia, after having failed to dominate Europe. If it had not been for the intervention of the United Nations and the quick response given to their request for aid by American forces in Japan, the Korean War would have been all over weeks ago and the Soviet Union would have added another satellite to its list at little cost to Russia.
The action taken by the Security Council is to restore to the South Korean* their just rights, and is not, a* “ Humanity ” and other Communist sympathisers suggest, a war of aggression. Its aim is not to provoke a third world war, but to prevent it. When the chief of staff of the North Korean 13th Division surrendered voluntarily to the Americans, he did so because he now realised that Russia had engineered the Korean War for her own benefit. North Korean prisoners interrogated by the American* also said that 20,000 Korean veterans of the Chinese Communist Army were used for the invasion of South Korea. Russia also supplied the invaders with huge quantities of equipment, including aircraft and tanks, and Russian military advisers were with the North Korean units. “ Humanity ’’ knew as well as anyone what was happening, yet he has the temerity to make this false and vicious attack against a nation that has sacrificed many of its young manhood in order that we might have a chance of remaining free from the chains of Communist slavery. I hardly think it is necessary to suggest his motives and reasons for this attack on America. Perhaps Stalin could tell us.—l am, etc., Matilda.
