Parliamentarians’ Visit To Christchurch EVE OF MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS PA CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 5. Consternation and criticism followed swiftly on a message received by the civic authorities this morning that a party of leading parliamentarians from overseas could be expected in Christchurch on Friday- November 17, the eve of the municipal elections. The message came from the Department of Internal Affairs. “It just shows that they do not think,” was the comment of the Mayor, Sir Ernest Andrews. “We are overwhelmed with the centennial celebrations and the elections as it is, and now they have planted a parliamentary delegation on us on the very eve of the elections.” The existing arrangements are that the visiting legislators will come to Christchurch in two parties, probably of 12 or 15 members in each. The visitors will be delegates to a Commonwealth parliamentary conference in Wellington, and will include some famous administrators. The first party will arrive in Christchurch on November 17 and will leave on November 20, and the second party will arrive on November 21 and will leave on November 23.
