POTATO INDUSTRY
Appointments To Board Gazetted GROWERS AND MERCHANTS Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Sept. 28. Three representatives of the potato growers in the North and South Islands and three representatives of the New Zealand Grain, Seed and Produce Merchants’ Federation have been appointed as members of the Potato Board set up under the Potato Growing, Industry Act to control the marketing and distribution of main crop potatoes and ensure an adequate supply to consumers. Their appointments, and that of an officer of the public service appointed in an advisory capacity, were gazetted tonight. The growers' representatives are Messrs T. L. Hayman, M.P., of Willowbridge, South Canterbury; G. H. Blair, of Yaldhurst, Canterbury; and F. C. Jurgens, of Bulls, Manawatu. The merchants’ representatives are Messrs H. J. R. Somerville, of Timaru: J. R. Virtue, of Wellington; and H. Christmas, of Palmerston North. Mr J. H. Claridge, superintendent of the seed industry for the Department of Agriculture, is Government represent tative on the board. The growers, who have been nominated through Federated Farmers as required by the Act, are interim representatives. All members have been appointed for a term of three years.
