APPEAL FOR CHILDREN

Contribution Rate Increasing PA WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. As the 1950 United Nations Appeal for Children moves towards its close next Saturday, contributions are coming into appeal headquarters, Wellington, at a sharply-rising rate, indicating that many people are sending in last-minute donations.

More money was received on Monday and Tuesday of this week from all parts of New Zealand than on any other two days in the whole campaign.

Appeal headquarters today emphasised again that it requires only £1 from every household in New Zealand to make the appeal a complete success.

“ This week,” said Mr C. S. Falconer, the Dominion chairman of the appeal, “we would like every home that has not already contributed something to send in its £1 either to its nearest UNAC collecting centre, or simply posted to ‘ UNAC, Wellington.’ We do not think £1 too much to expect from each household, more especially when it is a fact that every £1 contributed does actually save many children from sickness or death.

“United Nations headquarters have told us that they are watching this New Zealand campaign, which they regard as something of a model for other nations to copy. For that reason,” said Mr Falconer, “we do urge all our people to make it as successful as possible> by sending in their £1 a household before the end of the week.”
