RICCARTON HORSES
Good Record At Wingatui
Special to the Dally Times CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 25,
With a number of our trainers away at the Dunedin meeting and others assisting at Geraldine, there was very little activity at the Riccarton tracks this morning. Even the limited number, wno were out did not provide a great deal' of interest.
The fiiccarton contingent that went south for the Dunedin meeting had a good record on the first day, when they had three wins, four seconds and four thirds. They did particularly well in the McLean Stakes, with the four placings —lnfanta (trained by F. D. Jones), Bosky, Pukka Sahib and Montana. The other two winners, Ned Kelly and Hobgoblin, were trained by G. Ridgway for Mr J. M. Samson, a combination that also had a second placing with Bob’s March and a third with Robin Redbreast. Second placings also went to R. Wilson with Clair de Lune and to G. S. Barr with Lights On. There is some satisfaction here at the form shown by the Riccarton two-year-olds in the McLean Stakes. It was a welcome change after a lean period extending over many years. The result leaves room for the impression that our juveniles are a good lot.
The recent form of Diameter in a few hurdle races has been disappointing, and K. J. Thomson has sent him home for a spell. He is a good jumper, and it is possible that he will be given a trial later as a steeplechaser.
V. Lee has Aegina working well, and this Defaulter mare should be ready for a race at the South Canterbury meeting early next month, with a trip to Trentham to follow.
