Year’s Progress Made At Wakari

At the annual meting of the Wakari* Kaikorai Improvement Society in the Wao kari Community Centre last night five crj the six women members present sat contentedly knitting as the business proceeded. The retiring president, Mr F. H. Gill, reported a successful year and mentioned that several improvements had been made to roads and lights in the district since the last annual meeting.

The membership stood at 611„ Mr Gill said, and, although it was a slight increase on the previous year, it was in a healthy position when it was remembered that it had been only 36 two years before. Excellent progress had been made with the community centre, and many new groups to interest the younger member* of the district had been started, Mr Gill said. He was pleased to report that these were being well supported. The centre was creating much goodwill among the Wakari residents, he said, and its worth was appreciated by all.

The election of office-bearers resulted:— President, Mr C. P. Allen; vice-presi-dents, Messrs F. R. Nicol (senior) and 9. Anderson; secretary, Mr A. I- Emerson; treasurer, Mr G. T. Mawhinney; committee —Messrs R. McHardy, F. R. Gill, 1Olsen, L. McConnell, H. C. Reid, W. Howell, J. Stanvenger, P. Duggan, and J. Paterson. Office-bearers of the Wakari Communtiy Centre are: Secretary, Mr J. Paterson: treasurer, Mr F. Quayle; committee— Messrs F. R. Gill, J. Bustle, and senior office-bearers of the society’s executive.
