Rec. 9 p.m. WASHINGTON, Sept. 23. An American Air Force jet fighter landed at Limestone air base, Maine, this afternoon, after a non-stop flight from England. The pilot of a second jet participating in the flight was forced to bale out over Labrador.. He was picked up by rescue helicopter. The successful flight—the ffrst nonstop jet flight across the Atlantic—was made by Colonel David Schilling. His official time for approximately 3300 miles was 10 hours 1 minute. The jet was refulled in the air there times—over Scotland, Iceland and Labrador. Colonel Schilling’s companion, Lieutenant Colonel William Ritchie, parachuted when his Thunder jet ran out of petrol about 100 miles north-east of Goose Bay, Labrador. He was picked up uninjured. The two Thunderjets had battled head winds across the Atlantic.
