Prompt Action Of Ambulance

Driver PA AUCKLAND, Sept. 20. Now in the Auckland Hospital with severe burns to the face and head. Patrick O’Dowd, aged 36, a company director, of Parnell, and William Frederick Malcolm, aged 33, an engineer, of Epsom, were rescued by an ambulance driver, Mr B. Mearns, from the centre of a fire which broke out at Pressure Diecasters, Limited, Ponsonby, this morning. The fire started with explosive suddenness, and, when Mearns arrived, a burst oil feed pipe was spraying both the injured men. Mearns wrapped blankets round himself and dashed into the flames, wrapping blankets round each of the victims and bringing them to safety.
