WIDE INTEREST
Shield Match At Timaru PA TIMARU, Sept. 20.
Interest in the Ranfurly Shield match between South Canterbury and North Auckland on September 30 is greater than when the match against the British Isles was being arranged, the secretary of the South Canterbury Rugby Union, Mr P. S. Enting, said today. This was probably due to .the enthusiasm of South Canterbury Rugby followers and also the fact that the British team had played, or was to play, in centres from which the inquiries for shield match tickets were coming. “While Rugby unions have heavy financial commitments and it hurts to return money, that is what will happen with written applications for reservations from many parts of New Zealand,” Mr Enting said. It was expected that there would be ten inquiries for every seat available, and the union’s booking arrangements of season tickets first and then public booking by personal application was designed to five those who supported Rugby in outh Canterbury all the year round the first call on the seats.
Telephone and written inquiries have been received from many parts of New Zealand, including Palmerston North, Wanganui, New Plymouth and Wellington.
