STERLING FIRMER IN NEW YORK
NZPA Special Correspondent Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 20. The three-month rate for sterling in New York has hardened, and is now two dollars 81j cents, or lj cents above the official devalued rate of two dollars 80 cents. According to some American financial circles, sterling, is now in danger of becoming a scarce currency. Various factors have brought about an improvement in the strength of sterling, among them the demand for Commonwealth raw materials created by rearmament and the rising volume of British exports.
