CHANGES OF COLOURS
British Postage Stamps Rec. 10.30 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 20. The colours of British postage stamps valued up to 2Jd are to be changed next vear, Mr Charles Hobson, the Assistant Postmaster-general, announced in the House of Commons today. The changes, which will follow'the alteration of the 4d stamp from green to light blue on October 2, will be: id stamp from green to orange; Id, red to blue; lid, brown to green; 2d. orange to brown; 2Jd, blue to red. The designs will remain the same. This series of changes arises from the raising of the minimum foreign letter rate on October 2 from 3d to 4d. The Universal Postal Convention prescribes that the stamp for a letter to a foreign country should be coloured blue. One advantage is stated to be that it facilitates sorting. Britain has not observed this arrangement for some years.
