DUNEDIN,- SEPTEMBER 21, 1865. The West Coast Times of the 9th inst., refers to reports of auriferous discoveries to the south of Hokitika. The Times says:—“ Rumours of a very exciting character are afloat in reference to' the discovery of an alleged new goldfield about 90 miles to the south of Hokitika. We are unable to furnish definite particulars, but may observe - from the vague hints conveyed to us there is every prospect of a good rush taking place some distance to the southward.”
Butter has been scarce during the East month, and good quality colonial as risen to 2s 3d to 2s 4d a lb. Cheese has’ been dealt in more extensively than during the preceding month and a slight improvement in price may be noted, ll£d to Is per lb being attained. Fish of all kinds has been in fair demand, but the supply has been only moderate. Salmon in lib tins, 17s to 17s 6d per dozen; sardines, quarters 5s 9d to 6s, halves, 11s to 11s 6d; oysters, 11s 6d to 12s; ling, 4Jd to 5d per lb.
