INDIAN RESOLUTION
Representation Of Chinese Republic Rec. 11 p.m. NEW YORK, Sept. 18.. India today notice that it will introduce a resolution to the General Assembly tomorrow calling for the representation of the Republic of China in the Assembly. The resolution is based on recognition of the Communist, regime as the only Government functioning with a reasonable expectancy of permanence and of exercising control.
In New Delhi today Major-general Yuan Chung-hsuen, presenting his credentials as the first Communist China Ambassador to India, said China was nearing a balanced Budget, and had stabilised her currency and prices under the Communist regime. General Yuan told newspaper men later that under the guidance of the Communist leader, Mao Tse-tung, the Chinese people had gone swiftly ahead with national construction and had been able to make considerable economic, political, and cultural progress. He added that his Government was willing to establish normal diplomatic relations with any foreign Government that ended relations with the Nationalists.
New Equipment For Whalers Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON. Sept. 19. Whaling ships due to sail for the Antarctic next month are to be equipped with electric harpoons, says the Daily Telegraph. The harpoon, which was successfully tested last season, is fired in a similar way to the explosive one. The whale is killed by a high-voltage current passed through a cable attached to the harpo.on.
