North Otago Players In South Island Team Advice was received at the weekly meeting of the North Otago Rugby Union on Monday that S. Mosely and I. Nuttall, who had been selected for the South Island team to play the North Island at Auckland on Saturday, were to be in Auckland by Thursday afternoon. The two players will leave Oamaru this morning at 8.15 for Dunedin, where they will board a plane for Auckland. It was stated that a special plane had been chartered to bring the South Island team as far as Christchurch on Sunday. The president of the union, Mr J. Firman, said that the players would arrive in Christchurch early in the afternoon and the only available transport from there to Oamaru would be by the midnight express. He suggested that a member of the union should go to Christchurch by car and bring the North Otago players home. It was decided to adopt this course. Farewell Function “ Just grit your teeth and say, ‘ I’m as good as those fellows.' If you go on to the paddock determined to do your best, you will probably find yourself in the All Black team for Australia next year.” These were the remarks of the North Otago Rugby Union selector, Mr D. S. Loder, to S. Mosely at an informal function arranged for him and I. Nuttall on the eve of their departure for Auckland to play in the South Island team against the North Island on Saturday. “ Don’t be over-awed with the occasion. Remember you have been selected as a South Island player, so try and live up to the occasion.” Mr Loder said both had given good service to North Otago Rugby. When extending congratulations on behalf of the union, the president. Mr J. Firman, said that this was the first time since 1937 that North Otago had had players included in the South Island team. ,
