Position Of Teams Unchanged RANFURLY OUTPLAYS BECKS There was no change in the position of the teams in the Maniototo Sub-union’s competition at the conclusion of Saturday’s matches. Ranfurly still has a twopoint lead over Strgth-Taieri and Gimmerburn. Main interest on Saturday was centred in the Becks-Ranfurly match, played at Becks. As the sub-union had earlier in the week ruled that Gimmerburn’s challenge for the Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Shield on July 15 was out of order, Becks still held this trophy but lost it to Ranfurly last Saturday. The results were:— Senior. —Ranfurly 21, Becks nil; StrathTaieri 12, Patearoa 3; Southern 6, Ida Valley 6; Gimmerburn 8, Naseby nil. Juniors.—Strath-Taieri 15, Patearoa nil. Ranfurly's Comfortable Win Twelve points by All Black W. Meates made up more than half of Ranfurly’s Eoints in the match against Becks. The rst half was very evenly contested between the forwards, with Becks perhaps holding a slight advantage. Ranfurly, however, showed superiority in the backs. In the second spell, the Becks forwards showed the first signs of weakening and halfway through Ranfurly had full conSouthem v. Ida Valley The match played at Waipiata was evenly contested and the final score was possibly a good indication of the run of the play. Ida Valley’s points came from a try and a penalty anct Southern scored a try and a field goal. Gimmerburn v. Naseby Although set down to be played at Gimmerburn, the high wind at the time made it impossible to commence play, and both teams returned to Naseby. Gimmerburn held the upper hand and their points were from tries by G. Clarke and B. Paterson, one of which was converted by Paterson. HOCKEY Primary School Tournament The Maniototo Hockey Association conducted a seven-a-side tournament for primary school girls’ and boys’ teams on Saturday. The results of the finals were: Girls.—A Section: Naseby beat Patearoa. B section: Ranfurly B beat Waipiata B. Boys’ Section.—Hyde beat KokongaKyeburn.
